Hi ladies, this is my first trip to WDW and I have a 4 year old son. Is there a lot of walking, waiting lines for the rides and will I need a stroller? I am so excited.

Hi. I have the answers. Yes, yes and definitely…yes!

A first trip to Walt Disney World is a magical experience. However it’s difficult to appreciate the sheer size of WDW until you’ve “been there, done that“.

WDW encompasses 47 square miles and is twice the size of Manhattan. You will be mostly walking all day. That’s why mid-day breaks are really important. It‘s time to relax and recharge in the pool or in your room. You will appreciate having a stroller. The first time our son did not use a stroller was when he was 6. He still gets tired and often asks to sit at the nearest bench for a little break. When your son is dragging, being able to push him in the stroller will keep the family moving along.

You’ll be on your feet while walking, standing in line and sometimes during pre-shows for attractions. It’s nice to sit down at meals, snacks and when looking over the park maps. Theme park shows are great for time off of your feet.

I absolutely love to walk but I still wear comfortable shoes to avoid blisters. I carry moleskin in case anyone in the family gets a hot spot that needs to be covered up. There’s nothing worse than trying to trudge on with a blister.

I can just imagine your excitement for your upcoming trip. I absolutely love to hear about families getting ready to visit the Mouse’s House for the first time. I just wish I could see all the first time guests as they enter the Magic Kingdom.

The sheer size of Walt Disney World may compel you to race from one attraction to the next. Better yet, slow down and soak up the magic.

Just wait until you see your son’s eyes light up when you walk in to the Magic Kingdom. On your way out, you will be moving a little slower. Have fun!
