Hi Kristen! I am considering doing the Wild Africa Trek with my husband and two teen daughters in March. It's described on the website as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Would you agree? What makes it so? Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hi Darcie!  I am so glad you asked me about the Wild Africa Trek. My family just experienced this tour, and I can honestly say it was the highlight of our trip!  The Wild Africa Trek is offered as a VIP guided tour (max 12 guests) that goes behind the scenes in "Africa" at Disney's Animal Kingdom park. Offered several times per day, ours took place at noon-the perfect time as the sun was shining and it was warm enough for all of the animals to be out and active.

The beginning of the trek is on foot, in the backstage areas of the savanna. Without spoiling all of the fun stuff, I will say that you will get up close and personal with some animals that you would never want to in the wild!  No worries though-it just appears dangerous. Safety is the first priority. The snack, which happens about midway through the tour, is actually a beautifully presented 3 course, cold meal. It was absolutely delicious and served right in the middle of the savanna where we could view the animals all around us. We really loved it. The latter part of the trek is in a private safari vehicle-one that you can move around in freely for taking pictures. The guides will stop anywhere you wish, to observe the animals and answer any questions you have-they really know their stuff! I can't say enough how great our two guides were. Fun, knowledgeable and never making us feel rushed.  They take tons of pictures, both candid and posed, throughout the entire trek-you will receive all of these pics on a CD, a few weeks after you return home. This is included in the price of the trek.

Darcie, this really is a unique experience-I think it is very close to a real safari experience, without going to Africa!  While it is not inexpensive, we really felt the experience justified the cost. Please feel free to ask me any more questions you may have and if you do take the tour, I wish you loads of fun!
