Hi Korliss, i am trying to plan a disney trip for my family and I need help with planning the best trip possible. When is the best time of year to go? And I would like the full experience with meeting the characters. How do i add that to the itinerary?

    Hi, Crystal!

Planning a Disney vacation can be a huge task, but a lot of fun!

The best time of year to avoid the crowds is anytime that is not a holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve/Day, Memorial Weekend, Labor Day weekend, and the summer months can be jammed packed with excited guests. Visit near the end of January/first of February, anytime school is in session, or during our favorite time...the week before Thanksgiving. The crowds are small, the weather is mild, and the Christmas decorations are EVERYWHERE!!! I just love it!

To maximize your Walt Disney World experience, be sure to keep your My Disney Experience account as current as possible. Many of the character meet and greets are available with the FastPass+ system. Anna and Elsa, Ariel, and Mickey are available at Magic Kingdom. Be sure to secure these early, as they go fast. So as soon as your 60 or 30 day FastPass+ window opens, be sure to snag at least one of those as a FastPass+ option.

To add character meet and greets to your itinerary, click on "Things to Do", "Character Experiences", and then click on the heart next to the character that you would like to meet. By clicking on the heart, it adds this experience to your "Wish List." Wish list items can be seen in your itinerary on the right-hand side of the page. Just click on it!

Also, while you are in the parks, open the My Disney Experience App, click the menu icon at the top, then Wish List! The app provides you a list of characters, their times, and by clicking on the purple Mickey a map pops up to show you exactly where the characters are in the park!

I love planning our Disney trips, and I'm super excited to help you! Please come back to visit me again! I would love to assist you planning as many pixie-dusted details as you would like for your family!

    See you real soon!
