Bonjour Nicolino et bienvenue à bord planDisney!
I'm so glad that I get to answer this question for you, since the first time I ever worked on a ship was on the
Disney Wonder - and as they say, you never forget your first ship! I spent that entire first season
sailing to Alaska while living on board and naturally, a lot of guests would ask us on the first day whether the pools would be open over the course of the voyage.
From my personal experience onboard the Disney Wonder, the pools remained open on many of the beautiful sunny days that we experienced on these summertime Alaskan cruises, but were also routinely drained for cleaning or closed inclement weather as needed. To be honest, the majority of the weather experienced on Alaskan itineraries tends to be pleasant and was only ever chilly towards the end of the season in September.
(As a fellow Canadian, you've most likely handled way colder temperatures than anything you'll experience on an Alaskan summer cruise and I imagine that you can also relate when Elsa says: le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberté!)
It was always interesting to be able to take a dip into the
Quiet Cove Pool and gaze out at the mountains and try to spot eagles soaring above, as little clouds of water vapor drift up from the surface of the heated water. You might find the
Goofy Pool closed at various times over the course of your cruise, including on your
Glacier Viewing day of your voyage and this may be due to the preparations ahead of the
"Freezing the Night Away With Anna, Elsa, and Friends" Frozen Deck Party that typically takes place on that evening.
Like with any offerings on board, pool hours and availability are always subject to change without prior notice and your experience may be different when you cruise. What I can definitely recommend if you're sailing in August, is to take advantage of
one of the great Port Adventures that are available out there; the warm summer months saw a lot of salmon heading upstream and with that came a lot of in-person bear sightings! Come back to planDisney any time that you have
questions for me about cruising or visiting any Disney destinations around the globe, and be sure to
connect with Lynne, our Québecoise member of the team - si tu as envie de nous poser une question en français!
I hope that you get the chance to make a splash on your upcoming Alaskan adventure!
