Hi Alison,
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you for your question. Isn’t Disney’s Animal Kingdom such a fantastic place for dining? There are so many mouthwatering options around the park, and
Flame Tree Barbecue is one of them – the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork is my personal favorite, with that perfect, crispy onion ring on top. Pair it with a Mandarin Orange Vodka Lemonade and I’m in Disney food bliss!
Alison, I checked with a Cast Member about the barbecue sauce, and it appears that they no longer sell bottles of the sauce. I do recommend asking when you’re at the restaurant, and maybe even check one of the gift shops on Discovery Island. When you’re ordering your meal, be sure to ask for extra sauce on the side so you can really indulge! My magical upside: I find certain things just taste better at Walt Disney World. A local frozen yogurt place recently advertised that they now sell Dole Whips – I went there on my birthday, and while the pineapple soft serve was tasty, it wasn’t
magical. Perhaps it’s the same with the sauce, and you'll find it's something special you can look forward to between visits, and something that really gives you that "home" feeling when you finally get to enjoy it.
One last suggestion: while researching your question, I found several recipes online for copycat Flame Tree Barbecue Sauce. Maybe tie on your Mickey apron and try one out at home?
Alison, enjoy your visit to
Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where there is so much fun to be had – it is truly “alive with magic!”
Wishing you a barbecue sauce-dipped and pixie-dusted vacation,
Robyn
