How can I know if my old, but active, magic bands from 2017 will work if I link them to my upcoming reservation this summer?

Hello and welcome to planDisney, Vina. Thanks for stopping by with your question.

I see that you have a trip planned for the Most Magical Place On Earth later this summer. I know you've got to be so excited about that. August is such a fantastic month to visit. The weather is still nice and warm - perfect for swimming!

Vina, the official word is that the MagicBand battery life is expected to last around 2 years. However, I have MagicBands from a lot further back than that that are still active and are working fine. When you arrive at Walt Disney World, stop by the front desk of the Walt Disney World Resort Hotel that you happen to be staying at. They can test it out and see if it is working. If it is great! If not, they can actually give you a complementary key to the world card that you can use. The key to the world card can be linked to your theme park tickets, open your room door, collect your PhotoPass pictures and so much more. You can also purchase a new MagicBand at almost every merchandise location throughout Walt Disney World. If yours isn't working, it is easy to link the new MagicBand. Directions are listed step-by-step on the back of the packaging. The other option you have is to forgo using a MagicBand altogether and use your phone and the MyDisneyExperience app. This is what I have gone to and it is great. I've loaded my Walt Disney World Annual Pass to my mobile wallet so it is an easy click of a button to gain access to the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. Then via the app, I can unlock my Walt Disney World Resort Hotel door, mobile order food, collect my PhotoPass pictures, schedule my day and so on. If you don't already have the MyDisneyExperience app downloaded to your smartphone device, I highly recommend it.

I hope this helps, Vina. If you have any other questions while you plan your trip, please feel free to stop back by and ask me. I'm here to help.

    Happy planning!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
