Hey, Myrka, and welcome to planDisney. I am so glad you asked this question because I learned something extraordinary today.
Today, sailing from Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort to Magic Kingdom Park I saw something unusual. I was chatting with another Guest and noticed his original MagicBand from 2013. He has made three separate trips in 10 years and his MagicBand with the original battery still works! That being said, Disney states that the non-rechargeable batteries found in MagicBand and MagicBand2 (probably your style) last about 24 months while the rechargeable MagicBand+ has no limit. There is no way to check at home whether it works. I recommend you make sure it is linked to your My Disney Experience account and bring it with you for your July trip to give it a try. If it does not work then you should consider an upgrade to MagicBand+.
With your MagicBand you should be able to:
- To enter the theme parks with valid and linked admission tickets
- To unlock your Disney Resort hotel room door
- Charge purchases (food, beverages, and merchandise) to your Disney Resort hotel room folio. This requires a linked credit card and a 4-digit PIN setup.
- To access your Disney Resort feature pool
- Access Disney Resort Hotel laundry areas
You may also create a
Disney MagicMobile Pass on your phone or on select smart devices. They are all interchangeable with the features listed above.
One unknown with your specific MagicBand is whether it will work with the current Disney PhotoPass Service, especially on the attraction photos such as Space Mountain, TRON Lightcyle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and many others. Guest Relations in the theme parks should be able to help you answer this specific question.
planDisney Pro Tip: If you want a really custom MagicBands2 then visit
D-Tech at the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs or
Tomorrowland Launch Depot in Magic Kingdom Park Tomorrowland. There you can select the design you want on your personalized MagicBand.
Myrka, I know your trip in July is going to be a blast. Please feel free to
write me back directly with any follow-up questions about your Disney vacation.
Enjoy making many Magical Memories.
