Hi Stacy,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question.
Unfortunately, although
MagicBands are absolutely wonderful little inventions that have revolutionized and improved my family’s visits to Walt Disney World Resort, they can’t do everything… yet! My understanding is that, one of those things that they sadly still can’t do is “assign”
Disney Dining Plan credits to one Guest or set a limit on the number of credits that they can use. If the member of your party wanders off on his own, he’ll be able to access the entire room’s allotted Disney Dining Plan entitlements. But, who knows? Maybe this will be a good test to see whether he can follow a simple “credits” budget!
Another important point to note: as far as I know, it’s still impossible to set a spending limit on an individual MagicBand. For example, say that there are 4 family members staying in the same hotel room and all of their MagicBands are linked to the same credit card and the Resort spending limit linked to that card is $1000. You can't set an individual spending limit on those MagicBands; each person can spend as much as they want, up to a combined total of $1000.
One alternative for you would be to purchase a
Disney Gift Card for his use when you arrive in Walt Disney World Resort. That would be a great way to set a spending limit for him for both souvenirs and snacks, one that he definitely cannot exceed!
Please don’t hesitate to come back and visit us if you have any other questions.
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
