I know that Disney World does not allow tripods that extend over 6ft. If I have a tripod that can extend to that height, but I do not extend it past 4 of 5 feet and keep it compacted, is that ok?

Hi there, Ashley, and welcome to planDisney! It sounds like you’re about to embark on a magical journey to Walt Disney World Resort, and you must be so excited! Are your suitcases packed yet?

I have always wanted to hone my photography skills, especially when it comes to capturing special moments with my family during a vacation at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Thankfully, the amazing Disney PhotoPass Service photographers are there to take those snapshots for me. Did you know that they’ll gladly take a photo of you with your smartphone?

Ashley, I know you’re hoping to bring your trusty tripod into the Disney Theme Parks with you. The Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules state: “Tripods or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack or that extend over 6’ (182 cm) are not allowed in theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, or ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.” While you could promise not to extend it further than four or five feet, I suppose it would be difficult to enforce on a large scale. The potential risk of not being able to pass through the security checkpoint with your personal tripod makes it seem like it would be best to leave it safely at home.

I understand that there is a comfort level with the equipment that you’re used to having on hand. I’m hopeful that you can find a tripod that will fit easily into your backpack and not require a second look at the security checkpoint. I definitely recommend arriving at the theme parks early for photos without lots of crowds. I prefer to take photos in front of Cinderella Castle first thing in the morning, before the sunlight is too harsh. My dear friend and fellow Panelist, Alison, was recently one of the last few guests in Magic Kingdom Park. She and her daughters got some show-stopping nighttime photos on Main Street, U.S.A. Be sure to head over to EPCOT to capture the final days of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival - you’ll be blown away by the beautiful, bountiful blooms. There are so many opportunities for capturing memorable photos, so I know you won’t have any trouble in that department!

Ashley, I hope you have the very best time during your vacation. Please stop back by planDisney with any other questions you have as you continue to count down to your arrival!

    See you real soon!
