Hi Jerry,
When you pay out of pocket at a counter service restaurant, most of your meal is selected a la carte. You would select your items separately. Many guests paying out-of-pocket, do not splurge on dessert at each counter service meal. Instead they save those extra funds for a specialty cupcake, fudge, Dole Whip, or a fabulous bakery item!
Here's an example for PInocchio Village Haus in the Magic Kingdom:
Currently for $8.99 a meatball sub sandwich is offered with either fries or apple slices.
Soft drinks are $2.59.
Desserts include strawberry yogurt $1.99, chocolate cake $3.59, and gelato for $3.29.
Here's a menu for another counter-service location,
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe.
Note that prices are subject to change.
