Hi Kirsten, We have booked a trip to disney in August. Just wondering if you have any tips on how to deal with the heat at that time of year? We have 2 little kids (2 and 5). Thanks!!

    Hi Kim!

How exciting that you're heading to Walt Disney World in August!
Having some strategies on how to keep the kids cool in the heat of summer in Central Florida is a great plan to think about in advance for sure!

We bring big, refillable water bottles with us. The type you'd take to dance or yoga class with a lid that closes completely. We'll stop at a Quick Service or Snack location that serves fountain soda beverages and ask for a large cup of ice (or two) several times a day. We dump the ice into our bottles and as it slowly melts, we have a very cool and refreshing beverage. My kids love to chomp on the ice chips - it cools them down quickly and is a little more enjoyable somehow than water!

Another great thing to bring from home is one of those water spray bottles with the built-in fan. Sure, they look a little silly - but boy, oh boy do they work! We took them with us on our June and September  trips and the kids used them like crazy whenever we were walking from place to place, or sometimes even in the queues! A few Cast Members even asked the kids to spray THEM!

Strategically plan to take quiet, cool breaks at attractions that provide you with just that. A few of my favourites to get us all refreshed and chilled down in each of the four parks include: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Carousel of Progress, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, The Great Movie Ride, Disney Junior - Live on Stage!, Finding Nemo - The Musical and Festival of the Lion King.

Last but certainly not least, build in some relaxing pool time at your resort and be sure to visit the Disney Water Parks! They're my favourite way to beat the heat!

I hope these tips help you out Kim! Feel free to write back any time if I can assist you further with your plans. I'd love to hear from you again!

Wishing you a simply Magical time at Walt Disney World!

    Kirsten
