Hi Kirsten, We are coming from Saskatoon. Do Disney gift cards bought in Canada work in WDW-hoping to get early Xmas gifts for my girls? Can I get a card and load it with my American money to use throughout the parks, restaurants, etc? Thanks for the help.

Hello to you out in Saskatoon - a place near and dear to my heart!

How exciting that you'll be visiting Walt Disney World in December.
Unfortunately for us Canadians, Gift Cards purchased at the Disney Store locations in Canada are only in Canadian funds and valid for use AT Disney Store retail locations.

Your best way to pick up some Disney Gift Cards which will be in American funds and usable all around Walt Disney World's parks, restaurants and resorts is to wait until you arrive on site. If you're staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, you'll be able to put American cash onto Disney Gift Cards very easily at the retail shop location(s) right in your resort.

I always carry my 'budget' of spending money for our trips in cash and then load it onto Gift Cards immediately upon arrival and check-in. I recommend that you decide on an amount that you're comfortable with, and then load several cards - just for safety's sake. I usually load either $300 or $500 on each card, and only bring one with me each day - locking the rest in the resort room safe. If you happen to run out, simply charge to your room account and then visit the front desk with another Gift Card to pay that balance off with. It works out very well for me and keeps me on my 'budget.' My kids also receive their 'gift' or spending money they've brought from Grandma & Grandpa and put it on their own Disney Gift Cards (they choose their own design) to use responsibly throughout the trip.

Be sure to keep a small amount of cash set aside for cab or airport transportation tipping or for a meal at the airport before boarding your flight home.

I hope these tips help you out Sherry!
Please feel free to write me back any time ... I'd love to hear from you again!

Wishing you a simply Magical time at Walt Disney World!
