Kimberly, thanks for your great suggestions on resorts for our family of 4. I have 2 follow-on questions if that's okay. 1 - Is Jan/Feb a good time to visit (cost-wise)? 2 - You mentioned some great pools - will the boys be able to enjoy them in Jan/Feb?

Hi Frank, I’m happy to help with follow-up questions!

We have always found January to early February an excellent time to visit in order to secure lower rates. With the exception of Martin Luther King weekend, resort rates are value priced. It’s always been our favorite time to visit. In fact we were married on January 25, so we could celebrate our anniversary in WDW during this wonderful season.

The boys should be able to enjoy the pools. The majority of our visits have been at this time of year and our son has always swam. I need a really warm day to get in the water but my husband and son aren’t as wimpy. The best time for swimming is in the afternoons as mornings and evenings can be chilly. However I do remember some trips where all of us had fabulous late night swims in the Polynesian’s volcano pool while watching the fireworks.

It can be chilly at this time of year but we almost always luck out with at least a few days in the mid 70s to low 80s. On these days, we make sure to utilize the pool in the afternoon. This kind of January weather feels very warm to guests vacationing from the North. While guests are in the pool swimming, the Floridian lifeguards are usually in jackets!

The only difficult part of visiting at this time of year is packing. You will need to plan for weather extremes. We are often in pants in the morning, shorts in the afternoon and back to pants by the evening. Jackets or sweatshirts are often needed in the mornings and evenings.
