Kim, any thoughts on solo cruising? I was thinking of going in early December. Small budget. I've done WDW several times so I was thinking of just doing a longer cruise rather than a land/sea... Suggestions for that time of the year? Thanks so much ;-)

    Hi Allison!

Actually my last cruise aboard the Disney Magic was a solo trip. With the exception of the cost, cruising is a great way to travel on your own. You’ll have the opportunity to relax by yourself, join in activities and/or meet new people. You can do as much on your own or in groups as you like. For example, taking shore excursions can be fun with a new group of people or going shopping on your own in a port can be a nice way to spend an afternoon.

There is a single supplement fee that can make cruising solo in some stateroom categories a bit pricey. I would recommend watching for discounts and price out your options.

My cruise aboard the Disney Magic was for 7 nights. I truly enjoyed having the stateroom to myself. I even took a few indulgent naps in the middle of the afternoon!

It’s easy to enjoy all the ship has to offer when traveling solo. I was able to go to the shows and activities that were of interest to me without having to coordinate with my family. While I did miss having my husband and son with me, vacationing solo at sea is a relaxing adventure.

You can dine alone via room service and the quick service locations or have festive meals with your tablemates in the dining rooms.

At Castaway Cay, I took a bike ride then relaxed under a palm tree.

You will find more families traveling together in December due to holiday reunions, however the ship will be magically transformed with beautiful decorations.

You may find that December cruises are a bit more expensive but watch for discounts. To keep your budget low, watch your expenses with shore excursions and consider a day at the beach!
