Ahoy there, Paulette! Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney. I am sure you're getting excited for your upcoming
Disney Cruise Line adventure. It's really the only way to cruise in my book! Let's drop anchor and chat about what documentation your kids will need to set sail.
The types of documentation required for cruising depends on the itinerary and all of the
specifics can be found on the DCL website. For what's called a "closed-loop cruise" in the United States--meaning that the sailing departs from and returns to the same port--children 17 and other do not need a passport. However all Guests 15 and older are required to show the following:
- Original state-issued birth certificate (not hospital-issued)
- A physical, government-issued photo ID--think a driver's license or state ID card. This cannot be a copy!
You will also need to upload these documents as part of the
online check-in process and bring a copy of the Port Arrival Form in order to board the ship. Keep in mind that requirements can change, especially if your cruise departure is still quite some time away. I recommend taking a peek at the US State Department website closer to your sailing date for the most up-to-date information!
A Disney Cruise Line vacation will let your teenagers have plenty of freedom--my girls have loved our trips and come home every time with new friends!
Vibe is the teen club on the DCL ships and is a great hangout spot for older kids. It also frees you up to enjoy some of the adult-exclusive spaces!
Paulette, I hope you are getting excited for your cruise--it will be here before you know it! If our planDisney crew can help with any other questions, please come back anytime!
Bon Voyage!
Susan
