Welcome to planDisney, Heidi. Thanks for taking the time to visit us with your questions. I’m honored to be able to help with planning your upcoming trip with your little ones and extended family. I just enjoyed 2 full days park hopping at the Disneyland Resort theme parks with my family, and we found a 2-day trip to be a good amount of time. Park Hopping option allows for flexibility to enjoy both parks in one day, but it’s not a bad idea to leisurely experience one park a day as well.
With little ones in tow, you’ll most likely find more activities at Disneyland Park that are more appropriate. Attractions throughout Fantasyland are catered to young children, without height restrictions. Soar high in the sky on Dumbo the Flying Elephant, venture on Peter Pan’s Flight, or ride the rails abroad Casey Jr. Circus Train. While you’re there, don’t miss the newly reimagined Snow White’s Enchanted Wish. For a relaxing downtime with your little ones, take advantage of “it’s a small world” for a whimsical song-filled cruise around the world.
Over at Disney California Adventure Park, there are some attractions that are geared towards little ones, such as The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure (which is a great place to cool off on a warm day!), Jessie’s Critter Carousel, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, and Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
If you and other adults want to venture on thrill rides, many offer the
Rider Switch program. Just line up together and when it’s your turn, one adult will stay back with the children who are not tall enough or choose not to experience the attraction. Then when the first adult is done enjoying the ride, the other adult who stayed back initially gets to go on!
In terms of lodging with your large extended family, I recommend nearby
Good Neighbor hotels which offer larger rooms and suites. I have personally stayed at several close by hotels within short walking distance from the Main Entrance. They have suites to accompany a large group, as well as complimentary breakfasts to help Guests start their day. As much as our family has enjoyed the close proximity of the three onsite Disneyland Resort hotels, we can’t afford to stay there all the time unfortunately. However, I have found the nearby hotels to be great options for just a bath and a good night’s sleep after a long, fun-filled day at the parks!
I hope this information is helpful for you as you continue to plan your upcoming trip to the Happiest Place on Earth in September. Please
write me again if you have additional questions!
See ya real soon,
Kiki
