My kids are horribly picky eaters; would it be possible to dine at Akershus (dinner time) and only order desserts? If no, in what character dining could we do a dessert-only visit?

Hi Elizabeth. I'm so happy you found us here at planDisney. We are your one-stop resource for all things Disney vacation planning!

I love character dining at the Walt Disney World Resort. Well, I love all dining at the resort, but when I'm in the mood to eat with some character friends, these experiences really hit the spot. They each provide a unique setting, a variety of characters, and some pretty awesome food. The best part? You don't have to wait in lines to meet characters when you dine at these restaurants. Instead, you get a great meal and the characters come to you! Now that's a win-win!

At this time, all character dining experiences at the resort charge for more than just dessert. Some are family-style, others are prix fixe, and some are buffets. However, they all cater to a wide variety of palettes and offer options for even the pickiest of eaters. This is especially true for breakfast and the buffets as you can easily choose from a bunch of different options.

Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort has a very accessible buffet. There are many options for your picky eaters to choose from and they can eat as much of what they like. Plus, you'll get to hang out with Mickey and his friends! The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom Park is also another safe option. In this beautiful setting, you'll get to meet Winnie the Pooh and his friends too! Just be sure to check out the menus on the website to get an idea of what will be offered and see what will speak to your children.

Of course, there's always the option to skip character meals and simply meet characters throughout the parks. There are so many meet-and-greet locations throughout the resort that there will be no shortage of characters. From visiting Ariel's Grotto and Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom Park to hugging Moana in Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, meeting characters throughout your day may be a great alternative to sitting down for a meal your kids may not enjoy.

Elizabeth, no matter what you choose, you're going to love your interactions with the characters during your vacation. These experiences never cease to amaze me and I'm sure they will do the same for you and your family!
