Hi there, Vicki, and welcome to planDisney!
How special is it that your little one's birthday falls on such a fun holiday?! While my family's favorite way (a yearly tradition, in fact) to celebrate Halloween at Walt Disney World Resort is a night at
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, there are other ways to have a spooktacular celebration for your grandson.
When it comes to trick-or-treating in particular, you'll find that there are not too many options outside of the separately ticketed Halloween party. But I'd love to share some ideas that I've researched and some that my family has experienced firsthand:
-Participate in Disney Resort hotels activities: I've heard of many accounts of Guests getting in the Halloween spirit by participating in small events at their Resort hotels. So, if you're staying on property, find the activity board or ask a Cast Member what activities will take place on Halloween. For example, you could find trick-or-treating around the cabins and other areas at
Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, or maybe even make Halloween crafts at the other Resort hotels.
-Create your own trick-or-treating adventure: For my son's first Halloween, there was no Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party due to park closures earlier that year. So, we still made a theme park reservation for
Magic Kingdom Park and brought our own treat bags. We stopped at a couple of shops like Big Top Souvenirs and the Main Street Confectionary. My boys also dressed as their favorite characters from
Toy Story (kiddos under the age of 14 can wear costumes as they please even outside of the party). We definitely made the most of the day and noshed on some yummy treats!
-Experience a unique character dining option: My family visited Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto at Minnie's Halloween Dine at
Hollywood & Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios last year, and we had a blast! Seeing our favorite characters in their Halloween best is something my boys won't forget any time soon. I think this could be a cool way to ring in your grandson's new year.
I hope that you find this information helpful, Vicki. I am wishing on a star that your family enjoys your upcoming vacation at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Keep an eye out on
Disney Parks Blog next year to be among the first to know when the tickets go on sale for the 2024 Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Let us know if you have any other questions as you put the final touches on your grandson's birthday celebration.
Magic always,
LeAndra
