Hi, Kaylene! I see that you love BOMA. I worry that the open ceiling at BOMA would be too distracting for my autistic children. How is the food/atmosphere different from SANAA? Thanks! PS You should take your family camping in Yellowstone :-)

Hi Rochelle, I do love Boma. In fact, we enjoy it so much that we've never been able to pry ourselves away to try a meal at Sanaa. Therefore, to give you adequate information, I shared your ? with my friends on the Moms Panel. With the help of Kay, Andi, Tanya & Doug, I have some comparisons for you.

At Sanaa, the distraction factor can be hit or miss. It's worst when a lot of people are celebrating a special occasion as servers all get together and march around drumming & singing. Contrarily, others have had quiet meals there. If you schedule an off-hour lunch, you may be all set. You can sit by the windows & watch the animals (these tables are based on availability). The ceilings are lower at Sanaa than Boma. You have to have an adventuresome palate to really enjoy Sanaa. Overall, the atmosphere is more quiet and relaxed, with the exception of the occasional celebration.

Boma tends to be a bit loud because it's a buffet & people are moving around a lot to refill their plates. I feel one of the highlights of Boma is that you have such a wide variety of options on the buffet and while they are all a little "different", they're all delicious. The benefit of a buffet is that if you don't like one thing, you're not "stuck with it" (go up and try something different instead). I know that there are tables along the window at Boma that are a bit removed from the hub-bub in the center of the room.

I'm thinking that you could put in a request to be by the windows, or in a quieter area of either restaurant. Explain to the host or hostess your reasons for this and they'll be more apt to accommodate you (know that you may have to wait for a table to clear before you can be seated). All in all, if you feel the menu at Sanaa offers items that your family would enjoy, even though it pains me to say it, in your situation I'd choose Sanaa over Boma.

    Kaylene

PS We've been to Yellowstone and we loved it!
