Hi Kay, Thanks for your answer, we ALL love animals so I'm hoping AK will be a hit. 2nd questions is, you recommended going back to the resort for nap, with it being such a crowded time, will we run the risk of not getting back into MK after naptime?

Hi Saron!  Oops...with the Christmas holidays I wasn't able to get to the site to see your question. I hope I am not too late and if so I apologize!

My grandchildren love Animal Kingdom and this past month we enjoyed our visit to Rafikis Planet Watch.  They can pet and brush some friendly goats and sheep, observe the vet in action, get an up close experience with something exotic such as millipedes or crocodiles, and enjoy a lot of hands on things.  Of course my grandson loved the train ride to get there and it offers some great back scene views of the animal enclosures of the safari.

It is so hard to judge the crowds no matter what time of year anymore it seems.  My suggestion is to talk with guest services in the parks and get their view on the crowds for the day.  They will be the ones best to advise you on whether you should depart for naps or not.  On the big holidays, such as New Years Eve, I would not recommend leaving a park once you have entered.
