Hello Kay! We are from the Indy area and want to drive to DW. Have you driven before and what were your experiences and advice? We want to leave at 7PM and go straight through, alternating drivers. Any suggestions?

Hi Jaynee! Oh yes we have driven this route many, many times! We have a motor coach that we leave down there in the winter and bring back for the summer months. In fact my husband will be driving it back this weekend!

It is not a bad drive really. It will take you about 15-16 hours plus some stops.  The Kentucky and Georgia and Florida rest stops are wonderful but Tennessee is lacking so remember that when planning. There are plenty of fast food and gas stations along the way but again Tennessee is the most desolate in places especially as you get towards Chattanooga. It becomes quite hilly and very beautiful if you are driving in the day light hours.  Unfortunately you will contend with lots of trucks as you do on any interstate. When we drove down last month we did not run into too much construction but that can happen overnight.

The route we take is I65 to I24 at Nashville going through Louisville, Kentucky. They have had bridge backups in Louisville for the last year but it is better and at the time you are traveling you shouldn't have any difficulty. This city is fairly easy to drive through. Nashville is a little larger with more traffic but again not too bad. Continue on I24 until just south of Chattanooga where you will pick up I75. Follow this interstate all the way through Georgia and into Florida until you hit the Florida Turnpike. Be sure and take the bypass around Atlanta no matter what your Garmin says. They have had too much construction downtown to make it worth the effort.  When you hit Atlanta you will know you are about 8 hours to Disney. You will have one toll on the Florida Turnpike and it gets backed up. Look for Walt Disney World exits...you will have choices.

Its not bad....drive safe and be sure and pull over when you get tired!
