Kay, Don't tell Joanna, but I was able to reserve a FW Cabin for her birthday trip. She has two questions ... 1. is there anyplace at the resort she can use her roller skates & 2. will a TS chef make her a lunch item for breakfast due to her autism? --

Oh Rochelle, Joanna will be so excited and mums the word so she will be surprised for her birthday!

It sounds like she is a big roller skater in her spare time. Unfortunately, skating is not allowed at Fort Wilderness due to the safety reasons. Disney cares first and foremost for the safety of their guests and there just isn't a safe place to allow this great activity. At times the loops are quite quiet but they are still used by cars at all times. There are sidewalks everywhere but again these are used by guests who wish to walk from place to place. Roller skates and skateboards are not allowed. You will be able to rent a bike on a daily basis from the Bike Barn if you think she would enjoy a little biking during your stay. You can actually bike on a wooded path that takes you from Pioneer Hall all the way to the Wilderness Lodge. It is a beautiful ride and one where you just might pass some of the resident deer.

Now on to your second question about food choices. Disney does try to help those guests who have a dietary limitation. When you arrive at a table service location for your meal you can mention to the server you would like to talk with a chef about some possible choices for your daughter. They will do the best they can but I can't count that they can do "anything" as kitchens are only supplied with certain ingredients at certain times. They can only work with what is available. But I am sure they will try to make her happy with something special no matter what!

And don't forget you have a grill at your cabin and two trading posts for simple items to cook. When we stay at the cabins we use the grocery delivery service, gardengrocer.com so we are always well supplied with food for meals or snacks. The kitchen is full size so it offers large refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and full oven and stove. It comes with all the dishes and cooking needs and a nice pantry to store all your things to get them out of the way.
