Hi Kay - as we approach flu season, what are our options if one of us become ill during our vacation? Is there medical help available or at least a place to purchase over the counter medicine? Thank you.

Yes Lisa, we have arrived into the months of the dreaded colds and flu and they can follow us even on vacation!

The Disney resorts will all have small shops which will be supplied with standard over the counter medicines that guests might need.  If you are in a park and find you need something you can head to the First Aid Station.  Cast members in each park can direct you to the location.

If you feel you need a doctor's care you have several options.  You can head to a nearby hospital where you can wait for a doctor in the Emergency Room or you can use a service that is offered called Docs On Call.  I have actually had to use this in past visits and it was referred by the Disney resorts.  A doctor will come to your resort room as quickly as possible to assess your ailments and medical needs. If a prescription is required he will take care of that through a local pharmacy and it will be delivered directly to the resort as soon as possible.  This service might cost more but when you are sick or a family member is sick you want the fastest way to feeling better possible!

My daughter became sick during a visit and used this service. The doctor was thorough and was there within an hour even on a busy weekend night. Because it was late the prescription couldn't arrive until morning but it was there before we could even think about it.  The benefit of having your child in a bed and comfortable as possible far out weighs sitting in a hospital emergency room with dozens of other sick people. I highly recommend Docs On Call and if you need the number in the future it is 407-399-3627.  It is a 24 hour a day medical house call service with specialists in family practice medicine.
