Hi Kari, New DVC member. I am trying to plan our next trip to WDW. Want to stay at BW Villas, but home resort is AKL. If we book at AKL 11 months out to secure our dates can we switch to BW if available at 7 months? Or do we need to wait til 7 months? Thx!

Howdy Casey!!  WELCOME TO THE DISNEY VACATION CLUB!!!!!  I'm so happy that you have joined the family!!

You are going to love Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas!  We will be there in a few weeks and I cannot wait!!

This is a great question!  You are being very proactive with your points and that will help you maximize your membership.  Nice!!!

Yes!  I would encourage you to book Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas at the 11 month booking window to ensure you have a place to stay during your vacation.

Then, at the 7 month window, do exactly as you mentioned and try to book Disney's BoardWalk Villas.  If the villa of your choice is not available, I would encourage you to waitlist your request.

Disney Vacation Club has made the waitlist process very easy.  If your room type becomes available, your reservation will automatically be modified and you will receive an email with the updated information.

As I don't know how many points you have, I just want to caution you on your planning.  Watch your points and make sure you have the banking/borrowing covered.  I'm definitely not discouraging you from banking or borrowing.  We do it frequently and it's one of my favorite aspects of DVC due to the flexibility it offers.  I just want to make sure you are aware of your options, etc. so that you can think about it when you are planning your next vacation.  For more information, from the DVC Member website, go to My Membership, Membership Guide, Understanding Your Vacation Points and then you will see several topics regarding banking and borrowing points.

I'm so excited for you!!!!  Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding maximizing your DVC Membership.

    Welcome Home Casey!!!
