Hi Alan,
Thank you for your question! You've certainly asked the right person if you looking for that little nudge because I believe that you are never to young to enjoy Disney...so I'd say go for it!
A first trip with children can be very overwhelming, so if at all possible I would suggest traveling during their value season (September and January are my favorite times to visit). You will find that it is not only the least expensive time to travel, but the crowd levels are the lightest.
My second bit of advice would be to stay in a Walt Disney World resort. They have accommodations to suit every family and every budget, and the theming of their resorts is unparalleled. As a WDW Resort guest, you'll receive many benefits such as complimentary transportation and luggage delivery from Orlando International Airport, extra magic hours (which will allow you a bit of extra time in the theme parks), package delivery, and so much more! You can view a detailed list of the benefits
HERE.
Plan, plan, plan there are tons of resources for you to use when planning your vacation. You've certainly started in the right place, so come back to the Moms Panel with all your questions (and be sure to browse the archives there's a lot of great information). I would also suggest picking up a guide book, my favorite has been the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World by Bob Sehlinger
Good luck in your planning, I hope this helps!
