Hi Karen, Thanks for your question; Disney Vacation Club is one of my favorite topics to talk about! The decision to invest in the DVC is a huge financial decision, so you are smart to do your homework before making the leap! We purchased DVC with the intention of visiting at least once per year. At the time I was pregnant with our first child, so our early visits were in a studio or one bedroom. Since that time we have added two more children to our family so we always opt for the extra space of the 2-br villas. For us this is critical, as we tend to have longer stays and spend a fair amount of time at the resort.
For my family, traveling off-peak has always been a priority so I have never had an issue securing the reservations that I want, and I typically book at the seven month window. My little plug…Having the laundry and the full kitchen is probably the biggest perks for us. The washer and dryer allow for me to pack lighter, which is incredibly helpful when traveling with small children. The kitchen is my biggest cost saving measure, as we grocery shop and prepare at least 1-2 meals in our villa. We buy a case of bottled water and juice to store in the fridge and take with us to the parks. For us, having foods available that are healthy and familiar to our children really helps their overall behavior and reduces the stress and expense of dining out for every meal. Disney has become a very “easy” vacation for us, so we visit at least 2-3 times per year. Even after eight years of membership we still experiencing new things on every trip. It is quality family time for us, and since kids are only little once it is a perfect opportunity for us to go on family friendly vacations! I have always called it an investment in our family and it’s the best one we’ve made!
