Hi Michelle,
Oh no! As parents we already have plenty to worry about - I'm sorry that a severe food allergy was added to your list.
When I was on recently on the Disney Wonder, I had the opportunity to speak with not only the executive chef onboard but the director of Youth Programming as well - and handling food allergies was one of my main topics of concern. You'll be happy to hear that this is one topic that is taken very seriously, and there are policies and protocol that are followed to address these situations.
Now as a Mom, you'll want to be sure to have all your bases covered, and you can start by calling (800) 951-3532 and having this severe allergy noted on your reservation. Then you will need to follow up by filling out a medical form, this can be downloaded by utilizing the online "my cruise plans" tool at
www.disneycruise.com. Of course I would also speak with your doctor and discuss your vacation plans with him/her and hopefully they'll have some good advice too.
Once onboard, you will more than likely be approached by the chef the first evening to discuss the allergy - and I would request to speak with the director of Youth Programming as well to make certain they are aware of your son's condition.
I sure this new diagnosis presents your son with enough challenges already - thankfully I think that you'll find that having FUN on a Disney Cruise isn't one of them!
