Hi Karen! 1st Cruise 4/11.Booking Atlantis Dolphin Cay. Have read that Nassau is dirty and street vendors are pushy. How bad is it?You are experienced travelling with kids, should we pay for a water taxi to avoid this? Please be honest. Thanks!!

    Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the Moms Panel, and congratulations on booking your first Disney Cruise!  In my experience (and I'm being honest), I didn't find Nassau "dirty", as long as you stay on the beaten path in the shopping areas adjacent to the pier.  The vendors in the straw market can be quiet aggressive, so I personally do not care to go there.

We have traveled by taxi to Atlantis with our little ones, and the experience was a learning one!  When you first exit the ship you will be approached (before you even leave the pier) by cab drivers.   The first time we accepted the first ride that was offered, but the driver then made us stand there and wait while others disembarked the ship trying to fill his van.  We then had to walk off the pier with him to his cab.

What we should have done is continued off the pier on our own because there were plenty of cabs ready and waiting to leave right then.  From what I saw, the cabs are not spectacular and certainly are not up to the cleanliness standards we were accustomed to - however I would take a a taxi again if I were headed to Atlantis.  You should expect to pay about $3-4 per person, and I recommend that you settle on the rate with your driver prior to getting in the cab.

    I hope this helps!
