Hi Kara, I am a neighbor in South Dakota and we are planing our kids,15,13, 8, 1st WDW vaca in Aug. We are staying at the POR and wondered if you thought the Spirit of Aloha would be a good choice after a day at BB? How do u rate the show & food? Than

    Hi Midwest Neighbor!

I had to get a bit of help with this question since I'm embarrassed to admit I have not seen the Spirit of Aloha show. Disney Mom Erin provided me with her insight to the show as it compares to another dinner show, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue:

I have seen both these shows several times. While there are a few good points about the Luau, I very much prefer the Hoop Dee Doo Revue (HDDR).  Here's why:

    1. The food. Frankly, the food at the Luau is just not that good, especially considering the price. The last time we dined there, the chocolate volcano cake had such an off taste that my kids wouldn't eat it. And when kids refuse cake, that really tells you something. On the other hand, the chicken and ribs at HDDR are real crowd pleasers.

    2. The show. The luau is almost all dancing strung together with a plot that makes High School Musical look like King Lear. The dancing is great, but once you've seen one or two variations of Polynesian hip swaying, the eighth and ninth versions lose a lot of their impact. Particularly with boys, there is a high possibility of boredom. This contrasted with the HDDR, which has lots of familiar songs, audience participation, and corny jokes that will keep the whole family entertained.

I can also vouch from my household of teen/tween boys, HDDR is a hit; one they ask to return to year after year.

It was a great treat to get your question; please let me know if I can help again!
