Hi Paal!
Welcome to planDisney, and thank you for stopping by with your question all about joining
Disney Vacation Club! As a Member from the UK, I love getting to chat with fellow Europeans about how Membership works – I know just how much of an investment it is, both financially and in the memories you’ll make on future holidays.
Paal, you're absolutely right, some Disney Vacation Club contracts do expire in 2042. The deed expiration is based on the date the resort opened, not when you purchase the contract. For example, Disney's Old Key West was the first Disney Vacation Club resort and originally had a 2042 end date. However, Members were once offered a one-time opportunity to extend their deed to 2057 for an additional fee. Some took it, others didn’t, so you’ll find both expiry dates in circulation today. That extension offer hasn’t been repeated since. Other resorts with 2042 deed expirations include Disney’s Beach Club Villas, BoardWalk Villas, Boulder Ridge, Vero Beach, and Hilton Head.
The newer resorts being sold today come with longer deeds based on their opening dates. For example,
The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness expire in 2075,
Disney’s Riviera Resort expires in 2070, and the
Villas at Disneyland Hotel expire in 2074.
You may have seen that the
Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is also now open! While it’s brand new, it’s technically an expansion of the existing Polynesian DVC resort. Because of that, it shares the same deed expiration of 2066 and falls under the same condominium association. So while you’re getting the experience of a brand new resort, the contract runs to the same end date as the existing Polynesian Villas.
If you’re anything like me, planning a trip to the US takes careful planning – we often know our travel dates around a year ahead. Because of that, we always book at the 11-month home resort priority window. So when thinking about deed length, it’s just as important to consider where you really want to stay. Take Disney’s Polynesian Villas – yes, the expiration is sooner than some others, but it's also a hugely popular resort and can be tough to book without home resort priority.
When you visit Walt Disney World, you can speak to a Cast Member at one of the DVC Discovery Desks across the resort to arrange a tour. There are often incentives available for Guests who take a tour, and these do change from time to time. You can find the latest information about tours and current offers
here.
I hope this helps, Paal, and that you get to take a Disney Vacation Club tour soon! My family has made so many unforgettable memories thanks to our Membership, and I hope you get the chance to experience the magic of Membership, too. If you’d like to chat more about points charts, benefits, or my favourite resorts, please
reach out to me. I could talk about Disney Vacation Club all day!
See ya real soon,
Matt
