Hi Jill, thank you for your help with Chef Mickey. How long does dinner at Chef Mickey last? Will we have time to head back to Epcot for IllumiNations? Do you have anymore ideas on how to make my son's day extra special? We also have a daughter 9 & so

    Welcome back, Trisha!

I was delighted to find your question in my Moms Panel mailbox.

Since Chef Mickey's is a buffet, you can largely determine how long you wish to spend there.  I wouldn't expect that you'd want to spend less than an hour, though, since you'll want to take time to visit with Mickey and his friends as they stop by your table.  Make sure the birthday boy and his sister each has an autograph book for the characters to sign and don't forget your camera.  Character meals are the best place to grab photos with Disney characters.  I wrote an entire blog post about this.  Just google "Orbitz blog Chef Mickey's" if you want to check the article out.

If you make a dining reservation for 5 pm at Chef Mickey's, you should have plenty of time to return to Epcot for Illuminations.  Let's assume you'll finish dinner at 6:30.  I'd allow yourself an hour to take the resort monorail to the Ticket & Transportation from the Contemporary.  Then you'll transfer to the Epcot-bound monorail.  An hour should be plenty of time to reach World Showcase before the evening laser and fireworks show.

The other option, of course, is to stay in the Magic Kingdom area for the evening.  You could take the monorail over to Disney's Polynesian Resort and head out to the beach to enjoy a stunning view of the fireworks above Cinderella Castle.  You could really blow your son's mind by renting a guided fireworks cruise to celebrate his birthday.  If you're interested in this option, call (407) WDW-PLAY to book your family's cruise across the Seven Seas Lagoon.

No matter what evening activity you choose, I'm sure your son will have a birthday he'll never forget!

    Best wishes,
    Jill
