Hi Jill! My husband, sons (ages 8 and 11) and I will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge later this month. We'd love to spend plenty of time relaxing at and exploring the resort. In addition to the pool, what experiences at WL would you recommend for us?

    Hi Laura,

Thank you for one of my all-time favorite questions.  If you've read my other responses on the Moms Panel, you probably already know that I am a huge fan of Disney's Wilderness Lodge.  When I walk into that gorgeous lobby, my blood pressure instantly drops and I am at home.

I'm so pleased to hear that you will be spending some time relaxing and exploring the resort.  There are peaceful little nooks everywhere that are perfect places to read, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, listen to the glorious Western music, and soak up the general ambiance of the resort.  My favorite hideaways include the library table on the second floor of the resort above the entrance, the rocking chairs on the porch of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge, and any comfy chair in the lobby.

Be sure to ask at check-in time whether you could participate as the "flag family" for the resort during your stay.  If you are chosen, you and up to three family members will accompany one of the resort's rangers to the hotel roof to raise the flags for the day.  The views from this vantage point are spectacular!

Also inquire about the free Wonders of the Lodge tour.  This is a great introduction to the resort.  Try to do this early in your stay.  You may also request a hidden Mickey guide to the resort at Guest Services.

I bet your boys would love to rent bikes at Teton Boat and Bike Rentals.  There's a great path to Fort Wilderness to explore by bicycle.  My tween son and I did this on a recent trip and it was so much fun.  Or you could book a fishing expedition from the dock behind the resort.  That was one of my son's favorite memories at Walt Disney World.

Let me know if you need more suggestions!  (I could go on and on...)  I love Disney's Wilderness Lodge and know it will be the perfect backdrop for your upcoming trip.

    Best wishes,
    Jill
