Elaine Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Hello. I’m travelling in Oct with my 14 year old who has coeliac disease. How easy is access to gluten free/coeliac safe food in the parks and in the Disney hotels. We are staying in the Port Orleans French quarter. Thanks

Hi Elaine, and welcome to planDisney! I know it takes careful planning when a loved one has food allergies and special dietary needs. I’m here to help as you plan for a magical visit to Walt Disney World Resort with your daughter!

The first thing I want to assure you is that Disney takes special dietary needs seriously and has protocols in place to help ensure your daughter will be able to enjoy her meals safely and confidently. Most restaurants will be able to prepare meals that are free of the most common allergens listed by the FDA, including eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat. They can also often accommodate special requests for meals free of other allergens such as gluten, lactose, and corn, just to name a few. I prefer gluten-free meals and have been able to find endless delicious options at Walt Disney World. I encourage you to read over the procedures in place for Special Diets Requests and the steps you can take to ensure your daughter receives the meals she needs.

Most importantly, always be sure to inform the Cast Member taking your order about your daughter’s needs. You may also ask to speak with a Special Diets-trained Cast Member who can assist you further and answer any questions you may have. When your daughter’s meals arrive, they should come with a special visual marker that indicates they have been prepared according to your special dietary request.

Since you are staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, be sure to stop by Scat Cat's Club - Café and ask about gluten-free beignets. These sweet treats are very popular, so with a gluten-free option, your daughter can enjoy this New Orleans favorite, too. That would get the seal of approval from Tiana!

Elaine, I hope this gives you confidence that your daughter will be able to enjoy plenty of Disney dining magic during your vacation! We hope you’ll come back to see us with more planning questions. We love helping fellow Disney guests make the most of every magical moment of their vacations!

    See you on Main Street,
    Casey
