Ahoy Gable –
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Your question on travel insurance is a great one, and I am pleased to help with reviewing your options. Whether or not to purchase travel insurance for your cruise is a choice that will be different for every family. By far, most families purchasing travel insurance will not need to use it, and it is a great protection that hopefully you will not need. I find that having travel insurance to cover my flight and luggage against delays and damage is most convenient, and the 2 times I have ever used my insurance has been for this purpose. The other time I used it was to replace a stroller that “walked away from us” at Walt Disney World. The plan that is offered by the Walt Disney Company is an excellent comprehensive plan that includes medical coverage (which reimburses visits to the
Health Center or a hospital if needed), flight/luggage delays, theft, and missing the trip due to illness. A cruise is an investment, and it would be a shame to lose your entire trip due to a last minute illness. I have purchased the
Vacation Protection Plan offered by
Disney Cruise Line, and also have used my travel agent and online websites like
insuremytrip.com. Of the three, the rates are very similar, but sometimes I can do better online. One of the best things about the plans offered by Disney is that they have excellent coverage and offer a
cancel for any reason benefit. And yes, I purchase travel insurance for every cruise. Gable, I hope this helps with your planning, but please drop in for another visit if you need further assistance.
