Hi Katie! Currently the Grand Floridian is hosing a special "Gone Mad Party" on an outside terrace near the marina. It is held every Wednesday from 8:30-10:30pm and it is for a special viewing of Wishes fireworks show in the Magic Kingdom. There is no cost to attend but all drinks and dessert are at a cost. The decor is very cute and all themed around Alice in Wonderland of course. Since this is not a permanent fixture at this time please call the Grand Floridian on the Wednesday you were considering to see if it will be held during your stay. My feeling is that if this is popular it might become something they offer all the time.
Now on to the popular New Years Eve events at Walt Disney World. This is an extremely busy night and parks can shut down to crowds so you must make sure you have reservations and be in the parks ahead of time. Resort guests will be the last to be shut out but during special times this has even happened so plan accordingly.
Dining reservations are very hard to come by and be prepared for large park crowds. Some guests prefer to find a spot outside a park to view the special fireworks but even those will be crowded and often restricted to those particular resort guests. Check out some of the
Disney Holiday Happenings and see if you can grab a reservation for some good dining and fun while you are there.
Remember that the Magic Kingdom will be the most family friendly park to be in with Epcot World Showcase the least. Since alcohol is served in this area I prefer to keep away from the crowds in this park if I have younger children along. The Animal Kingdom park will not have loud fireworks due to the animals.
