Can I get info (as thorough as possible) as to what is available in the "convenience store" in Fort Wilderness? I am very careful about what my kids and I eat . . . are there healthy purchase options?

Hi Heather! The best place to get some groceries during your Fort Wilderness stay is at the Meadows Trading Post located in the heart of the RV loops in this resort. You did not mention if you were planning a cabin or an RV stay as getting groceries is a bit different for each location.

The Trading Post has a lengthy list of grocery items guests may purchase during their stay. The best way to see all that is offered is to check out the "Come Home to Fresh Groceries" section of the Cabin main page on the website. You can easily print the complete listing of all foods offered. If you are staying in a cabin you can complete your order and fax or email it back and the cast of the resort will fill it for you and deliver it to your cabin. They are not able to do this for the RV sites as obviously they cannot enter private property and cannot leave groceries outside where animals might find them.

If you are staying in an RV then you do have an option of going yourself to the Trading Post and picking up the items you need from the list or using an on-line local grocery delivery company. I recommend Gardengrocers as the best in the area. They do have a minimum order and can tend to be higher priced but the convenience is sometimes worth it when you would rather spend time in parks then in grocery stores. When using this service for an RV they will deliver to the front Check-in Outpost building and hold it for you there until they know you are in your vehicle. At that point they will offer to deliver the order to you.

Between the two options I feel you will find some great healthy food during your stay. Vacations tend to get us all off our regular food habits and its good when we can still find some healthy choices.
