How important is it to go to the parks when they open?

    Hi Nancy!

I'm a card-carrying member of the Walt Disney World Early Bird Society, so I was really excited to see your question.

(To be honest, there's no such thing as an early bird society...but you'll definitely find me waiting at the gates when it's time for the theme parks to open!)

Here are a few benefits to being an early bird:

    1) Since the theme parks get more crowded as the day progresses, you can enjoy the popular attractions with little or no wait time for the first hour or so.

    2) The FASTPASSes for some attractions (e.g. Soarin' and Toy Story Midway Mania) go really fast in the morning hours. If you want one, but don't get one early on, your only FASTPASS options for those attractions may end up being for later in the afternoon. (That means you'll have to wait for a majority of the day to pass before you can get your next FASTPASS.)

    3) In some cases, it can be tough to get reservations for the restaurants that offer character dining experiences during breakfast (e.g. The Crystal Palace). However, if you make that your first stop in the morning, you might be able to snag a walk-up reservation. (P.S. - This approach may also work for lunch and dinner reservations at popular restaurants if you visit them early on in the day.)

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

If you're not an early bird, don't worry. You probably have enough pressure in your daily life, so your vacation time should be as stress-free as possible. If your ideal vacation experience revolves around you staying up late and sleeping in, then make that your plan. I like to be at the theme parks early because it just so happens that my family and I naturally wake up early.

I hope that helps! If you should have any additional questions, please feel free to write back and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.

    Best regards,
