    What is an Imagineer?

    Hi Pamela,

Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with such a great question.  Disney Imagineers are a regular topic of conversation in our home, as my daughter is convinced that one day, she will be an Imagineer herself.

An Imagineer is a Cast Member who helps build and create new attractions and experiences at Disney Parks all over the world.  They use their creative minds paired with cutting edge technology to create theme parks, attractions, cruise ships, fireworks spectaculars and resorts, to name a few things.  Walt Disney created this position in the early 1950’s to build his first Theme Park, Disneyland.  From there, the position has grown to include scientists, writers, engineers and artists from all over the world.

One of the most interesting experiences I have had at Walt Disney World Resort, was when we experienced Dine with an Imagineer, at The Hollywood Brown Derby.  Not only was our lunch delicious, the conversation was incredible.  It truly amazes me how creative and inspirational our Imagineer was.  We were completely captivated for the entire experience.

Next time you visit a Disney Park anywhere in the world, take a minute to appreciate the work of the Imagineers.  Without them, Disney would not be Disney.

I hope hope that answers your question, Pamela.  Please let us know if you have any other questions.  We are always happy to help.
