I'm wondering if my 1 yr old can order from the kids menu and it still be free? Usually we share a plate, however he may not always like what I order, so I'm wondering what options are open for him.

Your one-year old will be able to eat for free at buffets and restaurants in which the food is served family-style.  Other than that, if you would like to order a child's meal for your son or daughter, you will be charged for it.

In my experience, many of the servers in different restaurants have gladly brought out crackers or bread for little ones to snack on.  When they've done this for us in the past we were not charged for those items.  Keep in mind that not all of the servers do this, and when they do, the snacks they provide typically aren't substantial and may not be enough to satisfy your child.  Most of the restaurants do have a kids menu available though just in case your baby isn't interested in eating whatever you're having for dinner that night, just be prepared to pay for the meal. I hope that helps!
