Bikes at the Boardwalk

I’m wondering if I’ll be able to walk from the Boardwalk Resort to Epcot on the day of the springtime surprise races on April 6, 2025. For clarification, I’m not going to the race; rather I’m just trying to go to Epcot on the day the races are held.

    Welcome to planDisney, Lily!

While I’m always happy to discuss Walt Disney World Resort, your question involves three of my very favorite magical topics: runDisney, EPCOT, and Disney’s BoardWalk, so I’m so thrilled you stopped by!

runDisney’s Springtime Surprise Weekend is rapidly approaching - I’ll be running the 10-Miler, so I’m painfully aware. Fortunately for us, that means our Walt Disney World vacations are just around the riverbend as well! Although the course for this year’s Springtime Surprise is 10-Miler has not yet been released, I’m happy to report, Lily, that the race will not impact your access to EPCOT from Disney's BoardWalk Inn. While in years past, the 10K and 10 Mile courses have included EPCOT’s World Showcase and parts of the BoardWalk, the early start times for these races mean that runners should have finished this portion of the course by the time the theme park opens for the day. If you do happen to encounter runners during your morning at EPCOT, I want to assure you that Cast Members do their best to ensure that races do not negatively impact the theme park experiences of Guests who are not participating.

While runDisney race weekends can increase crowds and cause temporary road closures (usually helpfully indicated in the My Disney Experience app and the Walt Disney World website), I think you’ll find that the atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie fostered by the presence of runners is contagious. Although my husband doesn’t run, he loves that congratulating the runners he sees proudly wearing their medals makes him feel a part of the experience.

planDisney Pixie Dust: Since you'll be staying at a Deluxe Disney Resort hotel, be sure to see if there are Extended Evening Theme Park Hours scheduled during your visit. This perk - exclusively available to Guests of deluxe hotels (and a few select others) is a great way to enjoy extra time in the theme parks and some of Walt Disney World's most popular attractions with less wait.

I hope this provides some peace of mind for you, Lily, as you finalize plans for your upcoming visit, and feel free to stop back by with any additional questions you may have. I'm always happy to help!

    Thinking Happy Thoughts,
    Lizzie
