Hello, I'm wondering if the disney show on board are available in french ? Will my kids understand the shows or the meetings with the characters ?

    Bonjour Adèle!

Being able to speak to you is transporting me back to my high school French class and wanting to tap into my younger days where I could speak more proficiently. But I can say, “Merci pour votre question et bienvenue à planDisney!”

I really WISH that Disney Cruise Line offered the Ears to the World feature like at Walt Disney World. These translation devices offer narration of many popular attractions in 5 languages, including French. All I can say about this is "Je suis désolé." Maybe in the future, this will become more commonplace on a Disney voyage. Nonetheless, I have several suggestions that may help maximize your family’s ability to enjoy the onboard shows.

Before your cruise, your children could get familiar with some of the shows in their native language so they will know and understand the storyline. Since I’m not certain of which ship you are sailing, let me give you information on all of them. If you are sailing on the Disney Wonder or the Disney Fantasy, then they should watch Frozen to prepare for the musical version, Frozen, A Musical Spectacular. Meanwhile, if the Disney Dream is your ship, then watch Beauty and the Beast before your cruise to get ready for the onstage version that awaits you. As for the Disney Magic, Tangled is the movie that inspired the ship’s show, Tangled: The Musical.

Technology is evolving and improving every day. Did you know that translation earbuds are readily available? Although that may not be an expense that they want to incur, it may be an excellent solution for your family members. These earbuds will translate all the onboard activities so your kids don't miss out on a single thing! But earbuds may not truly be necessary considering that onboard entertainment is so immersive and visually stunning that it transcends language. The feelings come through in the music and the acting Plus, who can forget the wow factor added by the costumes, sets, and special effects. So even if they do not speak English, your kiddos will still be moved by all the action and emotions flowing onstage!

Another amazing fact is that many of the Cast Members in the Youth Clubs are fluent in other languages. While there are no guarantees on who will be working in these Youth Clubs, you’ll typically find that their home countries are scattered all over the globe. That's one of the most amazing things you'll encounter on Disney Cruise Line...so many nationalities, the ship is like a great melting pot. The same goes for the Guests traveling on the cruise, so your children will likely become friends with others in the clubs who speak French, too.

All that said, do what feels right in helping your kids enjoy every WONDERful moment of their Disney cruise. Wishing you a truly MAGICal vacation that’s a DREAM come true for you all.
