I'm going to WDW Jan 2020. I'm nervous about buying tickets in advance b/c I don't know if a health issue may prevent my going. Will I be losing out waiting to purchase at the resort and missing out on fast passes for that time of yr?

    Hi Marilyn!

Thanks for your question. First, there is nothing more important than your health. We at the Moms Panel certainly would want you to have the time of your life when you come to Disney World, but there's nothing that takes greater precedence than you taking care of you!

I would love to say I have the best suggestion, but I would not want you to make a monetary investment into a Disney trip (which is not cheap), and not be able to attend for the reasons in which you've so eloquently described.

Now one thing I can say is if you're looking to purchase a Disney Vacation Package, you can add the Disney Travel Protection Plan insurance at a fairly nominal cost. This protects guests who may have to cancel their vacation for a number of reasons, up to and including being unable to travel due to a medical condition or illness, so this is always available as an option for you.

In terms of FastPass+ selections for attractions, guests that are able to reserve attractions prior to their visit will have a clear advantage over those who wait till they arrive on Disney property. Also, the closer your travel date approaches, the less probability you'll be able to secure the time (or attraction) you may be interested in.

So there are a number of factors to consider. I would suggest looking more at what the Travel Protection Plan has to offer, but I as stated earlier, your health is of most importance to me and to the rest of the Moms Panel!

Wishing you overall good health and wellness!
