Hi! I'm visiting WDW for Mardi Gras (2/9/18-2/14/18). There is a cheer competition on 2/10 and 2/11. Do you think that will affect my vacation?

    Hi Shantel!

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

I'm happy to hear you've got a Walt Disney World Resort vacation on the horizon! I love counting down the days until a Disney vacation. My family has a chalkboard "Days Until Disney" calendar in our kitchen, and we love watching the number get smaller and smaller until our vacation date arrives!

I've been at Walt Disney World Resort several times over the years at the same time a large cheer competition was being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. I can honestly say, I never noticed a big change in crowd levels in the theme parks. The cheer groups will spend most of their time in and around the competition venues, and usually have staggered visits to the parks in their down time. The only way the competition may affect your vacation is with more sightings of large sparkly hair bows and excited teenage girls in the parks from time to time!

I think for the majority of your February vacation you can expect moderate crowds due to Mardi Gras and lots of Louisiana school districts being out for breaks. The heavier crowds tend to show up for President's Day, which falls the week after your vacation.

I hope this information is helpful! Please let us know if you you have further questions as you plan your magical Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Have a Disney-riffic day! - Diane W.
