I'm visiting in May - DH and I have one daughter, age 5. I would love to stay at POFQ but keep reading reviews saying how "adult" and "quiet" the place is. Would Riverside be better for her age? Also want fast transport to MK and Epc

    Hi Kathy!

Port Orleans Riverside is my favorite Disney Moderate Resort.  However, French Quarter is also very nice and a guest at either Riverside or French Quarter can use all of the services and amenities of the other.  You can walk on a very nice, but long, path between the two or take a boat to get from one resort to the other.

I personally like Riverside better than French Quarter because I like the fact that there's a Table Service (full service) restaurant there, I think the food court is larger, I like the pool better, I like the carriage rides available, and I like the theming of the Alligator Bayou section of Riverside.  The water slide at Riverside is much longer than the one at French Quarter, though that probably will not matter to a 5 year old.  I also think your 5 year old will be just as happy at French Quarter as at Riverside!

From either Riverside or French Quarter, you will have to take a bus to get to any of the theme parks.  However, there is a boat from Riverside and French Quarter to Downtown Disney.  The boat ride is very relaxing with nice views; I especially find it relaxing at night.

If you want fast transportation to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot then you should consider staying in a Magic Kingdom or Epcot Resort. My favorite Magic Kingdom Resort is the Wilderness Lodge, but it is not on the monorail line. My favorite monorail resort is the Polynesian. My favorite Epcot Resort is the Beach Club, because of it's location and Stormalong Bay, a mini-water park at the pool. However, from the Beach Club, like Riverside or French Quarter, you would also have to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom.

If you really want fast access to both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, then I suggest staying at the Polynesian Resort.  It's on the Magic Kingdom monorail line, and you can walk to the Transportation and Ticket Center, giving you easy access to the Epcot monorail line!
