Hi NIcole! Our family LOVES Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom during the fall months. In fact we have been able to attend on Halloween night for the last three years.
The park is open only to those guests who have purchased the extra party ticket. The crowds are much lower then during a normal day making the lines for the attractions shorter and more enjoyable. Not all attractions are open but there are plenty to fill your night with fun. Throughout the park you will find trick or treat stations where cast members will be handing out candy and there will also be plenty of character meet and greet stations with the characters dressed in costume for the holiday!
If you want to really enjoy the occasion make sure the ENTIRE family dresses in costume for the evening. Yes, that means mom and dad too! You will not be alone and it just makes the spirit of the party so much more fun for you and the kids.
Last years ticket prices were anywhere from $51-67 for children to $57-72 for adults depending on month and date and advanced purchase versus same day purchase. Since your son will likely not be three yet he will be admitted free without needing a ticket. You can see great pictures and videos by going to this site,

The park is open late but when we take the younger grandkids we only stay until after the fireworks show. They hold out until then but we also make sure that they have had a nap that day. You won't want to miss the parade...one of the BEST specialty party parades on property and your kids might love the dance parties where they can dance the night away with characters. It's a ton of fun and a "must do" for our family every year!
