I'm trying to plan for lightning lanes with a variety of ages, heights, and thrill-seekers. If we are using rider swap, do we need a LL for both "group 1" AND "group 2" or can we just get lightning lanes for "group 1"?

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, Lisa!

Thanks for visiting us and welcome to planDisney! I’m so happy to hear that you have an upcoming trip and are planning on using Lightning Lanes Pass. Purchasing Lightning Lane Passes and planning ahead like you are will help make the most of your time in the theme parks. Even with using Lightning Lane, I always recommend arriving early, too!

When you arrive early, you can utilize the standby lines and reserve your Lightning Lane selections for later in the day, or you find that wait times are a little longer than you planned for. Plus, arriving early gives you the chance to take the perfect photo! Everyone is ready to begin the day, and in my family, chocolate Mickey Bar free. Usually, around lunchtime is when my youngest ends up enjoying and wearing her Mickey-shaped treat. So we always try to snag a good family photo before the snacking begins.

Now, when using Rider Switch, everyone in your party will need to have a valid Lightning Lane Pass for the attraction they are planning on using Rider Switch for. The Cast Member at the attraction will verify this and then set up the new return time for ‘Party B’. Party B will be the two people waiting with the little one and who will be riding the attraction next, after Party A has returned from their ride. So to answer your question, everyone who plans on riding the attraction will need a valid Lightning Lane reservation even when using Rider Switch.

Lisa, I hope this helps answer your question so that you can continue to plan for your visit. Another great tip is if you are traveling with little ones, we like to start with attractions that they are tall enough to enjoy. During their nap time is when the thrill seekers plan on enjoying the larger attractions, and you can use Rider Switch during those times. It’s a little easier when the younger Mouseketeers are napping to hang back and wait for the rest of the riders to get off the attraction. Especially if you have busy little ones like mine. We try to find a shaded area and enjoy a snack in between switches. This is usually when my youngest ends up wearing her snack, as I've previously mentioned.

Have a memorable trip, and if there’s anything else we can help with, don’t hesitate to ask!

    See ya real soon,

    Shantel
