Hi.  I'm trying to figure out as a 1st timer traveling with a family of 5 (3 kids).  I was wondering how much money I should bring? I have 2 reservations with characters & will also be paying as I go.  Please help! Thanks.

It's really hard to say.  That's a tough one!  I always based my budget on my kids' age.  For example, when the older ones were younger I would compensate meals with sandwiches or breakfast bars and snacks. Instead of buying meals in the parks, we would buy a frozen Mickey bar or a bucket of Popcorn.  That would minimize my overall cost.  You could take them to Mickey's Mart "Everything Ten dollars and Under" and it's true.  I found the food courts in the Value Resorts were less pricey than the Moderate Resorts.  The kids liked the Value Resorts' food courts the best.  Breakfast out is the least expensive meal unless it's a Character Meal, then it's a bit more.  I would recommend if you're on a tight budget to plan a big meal in the middle to late part of the day.  We would do that and it was the dinner/lunch.  I didn't let anyone buy souvenirs until the last day for many reasons; 1) How much did we have left? and 2) It gave everyone a chance to browse.  I can't give you a hard number, because there are so many variables and statistically it would be inaccurate.  I usually set up a food budget for the day for each person in my family.  It seems to work, especially if someone begs for something. I say, "well you have $30.00 left of your $40.00 food budget for the day".  They would have to think if they really want it or do they want that ice cream sundae when we get back to the resort?  If they are little, share the kids' meals.  We always did that as well.  I always budget what I think I will need and then I tack on $200.00 and not tell anyone.  My emergency stash!  I apologize for not being more definitive.  I hope you have an amazing visit!!  Good luck!!!  Heather M.
