I'm trying to decide between Carribean Beach and Port Orleans French Quarter, we stayed at Riverside and loved it, but we want to try something new. Travelling with 2 kids, 7 and 9. The reviews on tripadvisor are really widely varied.

    Hi Nina,

Let me help you unravel the differences between Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR) and Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ) so that you can make a more informed decision. The good news is that you're going to Disney World! It's never easy to choose from all the wonderful resorts though.

If your kids love to swim, you should be aware that the pool at Port Orleans French Quarter has a slide that is geared towards young children. The Caribbean Beach pool has a fun slide plus a zero-entry depth wading area. Plus there's a pirate ship water play area nearby.

The food court at Caribbean Beach seems quieter due to the larger floor plan and separated dining areas. The kid meals are served in sand pails! However, POFQ has delicious beignets!

POFQ is a smaller resort with only one bus stop. The grounds are absolutely charming with nice pathways, fountains, and ornate lampposts. CBR is very large. The tropical landscaping is beautiful but walks from the furthest buildings to the main pool and food court area can be long.

The rooms at Port Orleans French Quarter were more recently renovated with all new furnishings. POFQ rooms will have queen beds. CBR rooms while larger have only double beds.

POFQ has riverboat transportation to Downtown Disney.

CBR has sandy beaches with playgrounds. POFQ has one small playground near the pool.

If the pool is most important to you, go for Caribbean Beach Resort. If a newer room, transportation, and smaller resort are the bigger draws, go to Port Orleans French Quarter. Plus, you can always use the pool at Port Orleans Riverside since they are sister resorts!
