I'm trying to activate/link my magic band and it states The magic band is already claimed. I previously used it a few years ago but didn't use my account it was under my son or wifes account, how can I activate/link it to my account.

Hey Howdy Hey Vincent and welcome to planDisney!

Thank you for stopping by with your question about your MagicBand. I will be happy to help navigate you through this process and ready for your big trip to the Most Magical Plance on Earth real soon!

The first thing you will want to do is to see if the MagicBand in question is already linked to an account. As long as your wife and your son are linked to your account, you should be able to check on this through your My Disney Experience account. Once you log on, hover over your name and click on the heading "My MagicBands and Cards". Scroll to the bottom where your party members are listed and check to see if the Magicband is linked to someone else's account. You might have to also have your wife check her account as well depending on who is managing your son's account. If you see the MagicBand linked to one of their accounts, unfortunately, this looks like a job for the Cast Members that manage issues with MagicBands.

From here you would have two options. You can either call Disney at (407) 939-4357 and a Cast Member will be able to unlink your MagicBand and relink it to your account. You can also do this when you get to Walt Disney World Resort if you are staying onsite at a Disney Resort Collection hotel, the Cast Members at the front desk will be able to get this done for you there.

One word of caution as you are getting ready for your trip is about the life of your MagicBand. I have been told by several Cast Members that the battery in the older MagicBands lasts about 2 years and they are unable to be changed. I have heard that basic functions with them might still be used like getting in/out of your hotel room and tapping into the parks for your tickets and Lightning Lane reservations, but things like connecting your photos to your account for Memory Maker may not work. If you are wanting to fully experience the MagicBand for your upcoming vacation, I would recommend looking into getting a newer band. MagicBand+ is now available and takes the park experience to a whole new level! You will be able to interact with your environment in whole new ways such as special surprises with Disney Fab 50 Character Collection Statues, becoming part of the story as a Bounty Hunter in Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxies Edge as well as being a part of the nighttime fireworks celebrations!

Best of luck as your final preparations get underway for your Magical vacation. Please feel free to stop back with any further questions you may have, we are always happy to help!

    Have a Magical Day,
