I’m traveling to Disneyland / CA Adventure this week, and I’m heartbroken to see that it’s scheduled to rain all during my visit. How long do rides stay closed once it starts raining? If it is sprinkling will they still close down the outdoor thrill rides?

    Hi there, Kendra,

A visit to the Disneyland Resort can be magical at any time, even with less-than-ideal weather. But I understand the trepidation surrounding rain in the forecast. We are also planning on a visit to see Mickey this week. So we are making sure to pack our rain ponchos and water-friendly footwear.

When we visited the Disneyland Resort during the Holidays Season last year, Southern California was experiencing unusually rainy weather. During those rainy times, there were a few attractions that needed to close for the safety of Guests and Cast Members. But we were surprised to find that many of the attractions we thought might close remained open during times when light rain was active. We even rode the Incredicoaster in the rain!

It seems that the deciding factors for temporarily closing an attraction are more complex. My understanding is that proximity of lightning, wind speed, and other conditions are considered. The Cast Members are mindful of the disappointment Guests may experience when their favorite attractions are not available. Rest assured that they are working earnestly to safely reopen attractions as soon as conditions allow. In the meantime, I recommend some alternate activities, including:

Tony’s Tip: For rainy days, I highly recommend purchasing the Disney Genie+ service. Then, go ahead and book a Lightning Lane return time for your favorite outdoor attraction. In the best-case scenario, you will get to enjoy the attraction as planned. If the attraction should close temporarily during your return time, check the Disneyland mobile app to view alternative options. You may find that your return time has been converted to a “Multiple Experiences” return time. Your Multiple Experiences pass will show up on the “My Genie Day” screen of the app. Such a pass can be used any time for the remainder of the day for any of the participating attractions listed in the link you can find when you explore the information inside the pass. The flexibility this affords you will help to make up for the inconvenience of the weather. And you can re-book another Lightning Lane return time for the original attraction you missed!

Rain or shine, I hope you have a magical time at the Disneyland Resort, Kendra!
